IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is one of the methods used by email clients and apps to retrieve messages from a mail server. The other method is POP.
IMAP is the recommended method when you plan to check your email account from multiple devices such as your computer and phone; IMAP syncs your emails across the various devices.
